I like colorful socks that don’t match

I just wanted to share something funny that happened as part of my life as an interpreter. Before the start of the class, my client decided to talk to the professor. The client asked the professor if he could make an announcement, asking for someone in the class who was willing to take notes for my client. He agreed, then asked if there was anything he needed to do to help the client during class. The client doesn’t have any particular requests or concerns. He then asked, “How will you be able to particpate and ask questions during class?” You need to know that I was interpreting this entire exchange, signing what the professor was saying and voicing what my client was signing. After this question, my client looked at me for a second with an expression of “Did he really just ask that?” Then answered, “Just like we are communicating now. My interpreter will voice my comments.” We had a good laugh about that later.
